Forsight Vision Center

Forsight Vision Center

The ForSight Vision consists of four services.

First, we recommend that all patients receive a comprehensive examination by an ophthalmologist or optometrist. Ask your vision care provider if you are a good candidate for further low vision services.

Second, patients can receive a Functional Low Vision assessment from our Certified Low Vision Specialist.

The third service is our ForSight Vision Store where you can sample hundreds of low vision aids, including optical and non-optical assistive devices.

The fourth service is the demonstration, evaluation and sale of Closed Circuit Television Systems, also known as CCTVs.

Low Vision Information

What is low vision?

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology:

Low vision is a loss of eyesight that makes everyday tasks difficult.  A person with low vision may find it difficult or impossible to accomplish activities such as reading, writing, shopping, watching television, driving a car or recognizing faces.  When vision cannot be improved with regular eyeglasses, medicine or surgery, people with low vision need help to learn how to make the most of their remaining sight and keep their independence.  Losing vision does not mean giving up your activities, but it does mean finding new ways of doing them.

Learn what low vision is, how you can get help if you have low vision, what a low vision screening consists of and find out what new appliances are available to assist you in doing everyday tasks.

Low Vision Rehabilitation - a new ForSight Service

We are pleased to provide this new service. Our low vision therapist is a specialist in functional low vision assessments, instruction in the range of techniques, and devices available to enhance remaining vision.  The low vision therapist works closely with the referring eye care professional.  The role of the low vision therapist is to instruct, and assist the patient with proper use of low vision aids and devices.  Low vision therapists, essentially, take the clinical findings and apply them functionally to the patient's daily living and/or goals.  This may be accomplished through instruction on magnifiers, telescopes, visual techniques and strategies, or on the use of closed circuit televisions.  This professional is skilled in teaching the patient how to fixate, view eccentrically, and how to enhance vision with appropriate illumination, contrast, and size enlargement.  The therapist can make recommendations for environmental and employment modifications.
